Export MoguWind routes to Garmin watch

Get your wind-aware routes directly onto your Garmin device in minutes. This guide walks you through exporting from MoguWind Plan and uploading to Garmin.

You've planned the perfect route in MoguWind Plan—you know the wind direction and speed for every kilometre. Now you want to ride it on your Garmin. The good news: exporting MoguWind routes to Garmin is straightforward, and once synced, you can reference your wind forecast right on your wrist.

Why sync MoguWind routes to Garmin?

Riding with your route on your device keeps you on course while your hands stay on the bars. More importantly, if you're using MoguWind APP on Garmin Connect IQ, you'll have both your planned route and live wind data displayed together—a powerful combination for tactical riding decisions.

Many cyclists plan routes at home using a web planner, then upload them to a watch for navigation. MoguWind Plan lets you build routes that account for wind from the start, so syncing them to Garmin is the logical next step.

Step-by-step: export your MoguWind route

Here's the process to get your route from MoguWind Plan onto your Garmin:

  1. Open your route in MoguWind Plan. Log in and select the route you want to export. You'll see the wind forecast displayed along the route.
  2. Look for the export option. Click the menu or share button—typically a download icon or three-dot menu.
  3. Choose Garmin format (TCX or GPX). Most Garmin devices accept TCX (Training Center XML) files. If you're unsure, GPX is also widely supported.
  4. Download the file to your computer. The file will appear in your Downloads folder.
  5. Connect your Garmin device to your computer. Plug in your watch via USB cable.
  6. Locate your device's courses folder. On Windows, it's typically Computer > [Device Name] > Garmin > Courses. On Mac, use the Finder and navigate similarly.
  7. Paste the file into the Courses folder. Copy your exported MoguWind route file here.
  8. Safely eject your device and sync. Disconnect the USB cable. Your Garmin should recognize the new course within moments.

Accessing your route on the device

Once synced, open the Courses app (or Navigation app, depending on your Garmin model) on your watch. You'll see your MoguWind route listed by name. Select it to start navigation. Your device will guide you turn-by-turn, and if you have MoguWind APP installed, you can flip between navigation and the live wind forecast data.

Not all Garmin models have identical menus—check your device manual if you can't find the Courses app immediately. Older models might store routes differently, but the TCX import method works across most Edge, Fenix, and venu-series devices.

Garmin Connect as an alternative

If you prefer not to use USB, you can upload your route to Garmin Connect (Garmin's cloud platform). Export the file from MoguWind, then log into your Garmin Connect account on the web. Upload the TCX file there, and it will sync automatically to your paired device over Bluetooth within a few minutes. This method is often faster and cleaner, especially if your computer isn't handy.

Why MoguWind + Garmin integration matters

The real power of syncing MoguWind routes to Garmin is this: MoguWind calculates the exact wind speed and direction at each kilometre of your route, not a single forecast for the whole ride. When you export that route to Garmin, you're carrying a wind forecast that's specific to your path. Add the MoguWind APP to your Garmin Connect IQ device, and you get live wind updates during the ride—so you can adjust your effort when headwinds hit or capitalize on tail winds. It's the difference between knowing the weather and knowing what the weather will do to your ride.

Troubleshooting tips

If your route doesn't appear after syncing:

Once you've synced your first MoguWind route to Garmin, the workflow becomes automatic. Plan in MoguWind, export in seconds, and ride with confidence knowing your wind forecast is on your wrist. It's a small step that makes a real difference in how you approach wind-affected rides.
